NaNo #14 Journaling

I find that once in a while I have to back off my book and write the story of the plot in one long stream of consciousness--just to sort of figure out the layers of what is actually happening and what the sleuths are uncovering.
I also, not always and not consistently but sometimes, keep a journal. I find, like exercising regularly, regular journal keeping keeps me a little more sane and happy. I guess I am not alone. Sue Grafton talks about this, I think it is in the Speaking of Murder anthology, but don't quote me. Anyway, she has posted some of her journal pages on her website. They are pretty interesting insights into the way the process goes. It's reassuring to me to know we all fumble around without our flashlights once in a while.

And sometimes we just need to go to bed early. I'll admit that I've been pushing hard to get books that aren't mine off my desk, that I've dropped off on much of on my own writing. The pressure was there, but I couldn't move on the book. Instead of writing, I ended up reading a book about an FBI profiler... and it helped me fill in the gaps for the book I'm writing (with or without that pause!). So that was happy. And it gave me two new book ideas (as if I didn't have enough to begin with!) for my contemporary series.

Thanks again for keeping this blogging up for Nano... it does help me, even if I'm still not plugging away daily.

I'm glad it helps! I've been getting spammed here of late so there maybe a delay in your comments showing up.
